"The elephant herd is impressive, but the crowds make some areas feel narrow. The equatorial forest offers a superb tropical atmosphere. Prices inside are high, so it's best to bring your own snack to keep costs reasonable during the visit."

Bioparc Valencia is an immersive zoological park located in the Sant Pau district, in continuity with the Turia Gardens. Founded in 2008, it replaced the old municipal zoo and offers a family experience. On its 8 hectares, more than 800 animals spread across 116 species roam freely in four distinct biomes, offering a recommended visit duration of 3 to 4 hours to fully enjoy the immersion.
History and heritage of the Valencia zoo
Created in 2008, Bioparc Valencia succeeded the historic Valence zoo, active from 1965 to 2007. Many iconic animals, such as amphibious hippos, lions and giraffes, were transferred during this major transition. This project modernized wildlife presentation while maintaining a strong link with the city's local history. It spans 8 hectares in the Sant Pau district.
The park is operated by the private company Rain Forest Valencia, which also owns Bioparc Fuengirola in Andalusia. Although the municipality retains land ownership, this private management ensures a high level of care and conservation. The initial goal was to create a space where physical barriers disappear in favor of a sensation of direct entry into the natural habitat.
In 2014, the park welcomed 525,000 visitors, consolidating its position as Valence's number one tourist attraction according to TripAdvisor. This attendance reflects public enthusiasm for this innovative concept. The park continues to evolve, with approximately 830 mammals, birds and reptiles presented since 2016, reinforcing its specific African diversity. A permanent member of AEZA, it supports EEP programs.
The four biomes: dry savanna, wet savanna, equatorial forest and Madagascar
The dry savanna zone is the largest in the park, featuring Rothschild giraffes, Grant's zebras and southern white rhinos. A group of 8 African savanna elephants occupies an adjacent space, offering privileged viewing. Predators like African lions and spotted hyenas complete this African plains ecosystem. You'll also find oryx and porcupines.
The wet savanna features an installation inspired by the Kitum cave, a natural Kenyan site. It allows observing amphibious hippos and Nile crocodiles from underwater. Endemic fish like tilapia and aulonocara coexist with African spoonbills and pelicans, creating a rich and varied aquatic environment.
The equatorial forest and Madagascar zone complete the immersive itinerary. These spaces recreate tropical habitats with particular attention to concealing infrastructure. The Madagascar zone notably features lemurs, while the equatorial forest houses primates and predators. Each biome is designed to maximize the surprise effect and sensory immersion for the visitor.
Access from the city center and practical tips
Bioparc Valencia is accessible on foot via the Turia Gardens, offering a pleasant walk from the city center. For visitors coming from the station, EMT buses 63 and 67 serve stops near Parc de Cabecera. By car, private parking is available with a height limit of 2.10 m and an indicative rate of 7 euros maximum. Public transport access often remains the smoothest option.
It is essential to check seasonal hours before visiting, as they vary throughout the year. Tickets are available through official channels and online booking is recommended to guarantee access, especially in high season. An average duration of 3 to 4 hours is advised to explore the four zones without rushing.
The park is adapted for people with reduced mobility, although some areas like the Madagascar zone may require specific information. Only guide dogs and assistance dogs are allowed upon presentation of original proof. Each ticket supports EEP conservation programs and the Bioparc Foundation, adding an ethical dimension to the family experience.

Tips for visiting Bioparc Valencia
Insider tips
Arrive at opening
Animals are often more active in the early morning, allowing for better observation in the dry savanna and equatorial forest. Arrive at opening to avoid crowds and capture the natural behaviors of the 800+ animals on site.
Follow the immersive route
Respect the intended flow of circulation by Rain Forest Diseño to maximize the surprise effect and immersion in each biome. This optimized route takes you progressively from the dry savanna to the Madagascar zone without ever going back.
Observe underwater
Take your time in front of the wet savanna installation to see hippos and crocodiles in underwater view, a highlight often underestimated. The recreated Kitum cave offers a unique perspective that is well worth more than classic photos of land animals.
Photograph without flash
Use zoom rather than flash so as not to stress the animals, particularly in the primate zone and among predators. Flash can disturb chimpanzees and lions, so prefer the abundant natural light in these open, shaded spaces.
Comfortable shoes
With 8 hectares to cover, opt for walking shoes, especially if you come on foot from the city center via the Turia gardens. The terrain varies between compacted ground and sandy paths, so good grip is essential for the whole family.
Sun protection
The dry savanna offers little natural shade; plan for a hat and sunscreen, especially in summer, as exposure is direct. The recreated African great plains have almost no shelter, so protect children well and remember to hydrate regularly throughout the visit.
Public transport
EMT bus 67 from the station is an economical and practical option to avoid difficult parking around the Cabecera Park. The Hernández Lázaro – Vall de la Ballestera stop drops you directly right next to the park's main entrance.
Contribute to conservation
Remember that every ticket supports EEP programs and the Bioparc Foundation, adding an educational and ethical dimension to the visit. Your contribution directly finances research on endangered species and in situ conservation actions in Africa.
Book in advance
It is strongly recommended to book your tickets online to guarantee access, especially in high season and on weekends. Tickets are available through official channels and sometimes allow you to avoid queues at the entrance, which is precious with children.
Accessibility reduced mobility
The park is adapted to reduced mobility, but we recommend contacting the park in advance for specific needs. Access to the Madagascar zone may be restricted depending on conditions, so check current rules before your visit to organize it as best as possible.

The park was designed to hide barriers between the public and the animals, creating a sensation of direct entry into the natural habitat. On its 8 hectares, you truly feel at the heart of Africa thanks to this immersion concept.
Legacy of the historic zoo
Many animals from the old Valencia zoo (1965-2007), such as the hippopotamuses and lions, were transferred when Bioparc was created in 2008. This transition allowed the complete modernization of the reception of Valencian wildlife.
African specific diversity
Specialized in African wildlife, the park houses more than 800 animals spread over 116 species, mainly mammals, birds and reptiles. This concentration offers exceptional biodiversity rare in such a compact urban space.
Emblematic elephant group
A group of 8 savanna elephants from Africa is presented in an adjacent space to the dry savanna, offering privileged viewing. Their majestic presence is one of the highlights of any visit to the park.
Underwater view of the hippopotamuses
An installation inspired by the Kitum cave allows observing the amphibious hippopotamuses and Nile crocodiles in underwater vision. This unique perspective under the water transforms the wet savanna into a totally new visual experience for young and old alike.
Active EEP conservation
A permanent member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria, the park participates in European Endangered Species Programmes (EEP). It also supports in situ conservation through the Bioparc Foundation, adding a strong ethical dimension to your ticket.

Visit
Allow 3 to 4 hours to fully enjoy the four zones: dry savanna, wet savanna, equatorial forest and Madagascar zone. This duration allows you to keep a family pace without rushing. Fast groups can reduce it to 2 h 30, but would miss educational details.
As a local guide, I recommend arriving at opening when the animals are most active and the enclosures less crowded. Summer mornings offer ideal light for photos. Avoid noon in summer, as the heat makes animals less visible.
The dry savanna takes up most of the route, followed by the wet savanna with its underwater view. The equatorial forest then the Madagascar zone closes the itinerary. Follow the directional signs to optimize your route and avoid backtracking.
Privileged observation moments are organized according to the day's program, particularly around elephants and hippos. Do not count on feeding or direct contact without official confirmation. Check the daily schedule at the entrance for planned activities.
Practical
The hours are seasonal and vary depending on the time of year and public holidays. It is essential to check them on the official website or via the booking API before visiting. No fixed hours are guaranteed throughout the year, so always confirm the exact date of your visit.
Several outlets offer drinks, snacks and light meals spread across the different zones. Remember to bring water, especially in summer, as solar exposure is direct in the dry savanna. Prices are consistent with an urban zoo.
Personal photography is freely allowed in all areas, including the underwater installations. Flash is not recommended to avoid stressing the animals. A lightweight telephoto lens makes it easier to photograph predators and elephants without disturbing them.
A private parking is available on site, limited to 2.10 m in height. The maximum fee for the visit is €7, open from 8:00 AM until one hour after closing. In town, parking around Parc de Cabecera can be difficult; prefer EMT bus 67 from the train station.
Accessibility
The park is adapted for reduced mobility, with wide paths and rest areas. Some sections such as the Madagascar zone require particular attention. Contact the park in advance (960 660 526) to get full information on adapted routes.
Yes, the audioguide and educational materials are available in French, English, Spanish and other major languages. They enrich the visit by explaining each biome and the conservation programs. Ask at the entrance about rental and any fees.
Absolutely, the paths are stroller-friendly and children from 4 years old enjoy the immersion. Family toilets and rest areas are located in each zone. Plan for a hat and sunscreen, as exposure is direct in the dry savanna.
Access is allowed for guide dogs for the blind and assistance dogs upon presentation of valid accreditations. However, it will not be possible to access the Madagascar zone or the educational exhibition of the Amphitheater. Contact the park by email or phone to arrange your visit.
