At Milan Duomo, the Terraces stay open at sunset with music every Thursday

From June 11 to September 10, 2026, the “Serate d’Incanto” invite the public onto the Terraces of Milan Duomo for musical moments adapted to the evening light, with precise opening times and access conditions depending on the month.
A musical summer above Milan
Milan Duomo is putting its Terraces back at the center of the summer with the “Serate d’Incanto,” a calendar of musical events organized from June 11 to September 10, 2026. The principle is simple and very concrete: every Thursday, the public can access the heights of the cathedral to enjoy musical accompaniment as the daylight fades over the city.
The experience rests on a setting that is rarely comparable: the roof of the Milan Duomo, described by the Veneranda Fabbrica as the only cathedral in the world with a fully walkable roof. From this viewpoint, Milanese residents and tourists can look out over the Milanese skyline while attending a short musical moment.
A program designed around sunset
This edition also stands out for its timing. The repertoire changes every Thursday and the start time of the musical moment is adapted to the light of the sunset. In June and July, the concerts begin at 8:30 p.m.; in August, they are moved up to 8 p.m.; in September, they begin at 7:30 p.m.
These adjustments have practical consequences for visitors. In June and July, the Terraces remain open until 10 p.m., with the last ticket at 8:20 p.m. and the last ascent at 8:30 p.m. In August, closing is set for 9:30 p.m., with the last ticket at 7:50 p.m. and the last ascent at 8 p.m. In September, closing takes place at 9 p.m., with the last ticket at 7:20 p.m. and the last ascent at 7:30 p.m.
The Conservatory at the heart of the program
The artistic program is entrusted to artistic coordinator Matteo Amadasi. He guides the public through a path between classical tradition and the promotion of students from the Conservatorio di Musica “G. Verdi” in Milan, with which the Veneranda Fabbrica has renewed its collaboration for the initiative.
This presence of the Conservatory gives part of its structure to the 2026 edition. Three concerts are announced under its aegis, with a saxophone quartet, a solo violinist and an electronic music duo. Milan Duomo thus combines classical formats with more varied proposals, without leaving the musical framework planned on the Terraces.
Expected names on the Terraces
The opening of the season, on June 11 at 8:30 p.m., is entrusted to the Quartetto della Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano. The ensemble brings together Andrea Pecolo on violin, Stefano Lo Re on violin, Matteo Amadasi on viola and Alfredo Persichilli on cello.
The calendar also highlights several notable evenings. Davide Cabassi is announced for a piano recital on July 16, while Michele Gamba is expected for a solo piano concert on September 3. The program also mentions soloists Alfredo Persichilli, Simonide Braconi, Luca Ranieri, Mario Marzi, Fabrizio Meloni and Marco Zoni.

On July 23, violin and harp
The program announced for Thursday, July 23, 2026 features a violin and harp duo with Andrea Pecolo and Cecilia Pecolo. The planned music is by Gaetano Donizzetti and Camille Saint-Saëns, including the Sonata in G minor for violin and harp and the Fantaisie in A for violin and harp, Op. 124.
This date illustrates the format announced for the whole summer: a short musical moment, integrated into the visit to the Terraces, with a repertoire renewed from one Thursday to the next. The visitor is therefore not simply facing extended opening hours, but an evening access organized around an identified artistic program.
Tickets, access and weather
Access to the Terraces for the “Serate d’Incanto” is by elevator ascent. The listed prices start at 20 euros for a full ticket and 10 euros for the reduced rate. Tickets can be reserved on the official website duomomilano.it.
On the day of each event, a ticket service is also available at the Cassa Gruppi, located in Piazza del Duomo on the right side of the cathedral, until the time of the last ascent and subject to ticket availability. This rule makes the last ascent time decisive for any on-site decision.
Rain does not automatically close access: in case of rain, the Terraces remain accessible. The musical accompaniment may, however, be suspended. In the event of a weather alert, the Veneranda Fabbrica reserves the right to cancel the event.
Another visit among the spires
Alongside the musical evenings, the site also presents “A Walk among the Spires,” in the series of the Duomo’s great classics. These are individual visits with scheduled departures along the Terraces route, lasting 60 minutes, in Italian and English.
The cost of this visit is listed at 24 euros for the full rate from age 19, with a reduced rate starting at 15 euros. The route highlights the spires, the architectural and decorative details, as well as the heritage of the sculptural tradition passed down by the stonemasons of the marble workers’ workshop.
