At Milan Duomo, the Terraces stay open at sunset with music until September 10

Evening access to the top of the cathedral

In Milan, summer 2026 is also experienced above the city. The Serate d’Incanto bring musical accompaniment to the Terraces of Milan Duomo every Thursday, in a setting rarely accessible in this way in the evening. The program runs from June 11 to September 10, 2026, with schedules that gradually follow sunset time.

The setting is central to the experience. The Terraces make it possible to observe the Milan skyline from the roof of Milan Duomo, described by the Veneranda Fabbrica as the only cathedral in the world with an entirely walkable roof. The event therefore combines a walk high above the city, a view over Milan and music, without turning the visit into a classic seated concert.

Thursdays shaped by the Conservatory and the Veneranda Fabbrica

The calendar is entrusted to artistic coordinator Matteo Amadasi. The program is part of the renewed collaboration between the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano and Milan’s Conservatorio di Musica G. Verdi, with the stated aim of showcasing conservatory students alongside established performers.

The 2026 edition began on June 11 at 8:30 p.m. with the Quartetto della Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano. The ensemble brought together Andrea Pecolo on violin, Stefano Lo Re on violin, Matteo Amadasi on viola and Alfredo Persichilli on cello. The announced program then alternates formats, from saxophone quartet to solo violin, through to an electronic music duo.

Three August evenings already detailed

The next published sequence concerns the Thursdays in August. On August 13, 2026, Marcello Schiavi and Matteo Amadasi present Viola Duets. The program lists Ako Umram by Giovanni Sollima, Parosito, Kalamajko and Menuetto by Béla Bartók, as well as Siciliana, Heimat Terra and Hatsin Yerge by Sollima.

On August 20, 2026, Fabrizio Meloni and Elio Marchesini are announced for a concert combining clarinet and percussion. The musical moment is created for the occasion under the title Il respiro delle Guglie, Da Bach al Jazz, signaling a route conceived specifically for the Terraces and their spires.

On August 27, 2026, Germana Porcu Morano and Sandro Laffranchini take over with violin and cello. The works cited range from Reinhold Glière’s Duo op. 53 to themes by Ennio Morricone, including Nuovo Cinema Paradiso and C’era una volta il West, as well as pieces by Nino Rota such as Parla più piano and Un diavolo sentimentale.

Hours that change with the light

The most important practical rule concerns the schedule. In June and July, the musical moment begins at 8:30 p.m. The Terraces then remain open until 10 p.m., with the last ticket at 8:20 p.m. and the last ascent at 8:30 p.m. This arrangement gives the public late access, while setting a very precise deadline for entry.

In August, the schedule moves earlier. The musical event begins at 8 p.m., the last ticket is scheduled for 7:50 p.m., the last ascent at 8 p.m. and the Terraces close at 9:30 p.m. In September, the start is set for 7:30 p.m., with the last ticket at 7:20 p.m., the last ascent at 7:30 p.m. and closing at 9 p.m.

Tickets, elevator and official purchase

Access to the Serate d’Incanto is by elevator ascent. The listed prices start at 20 euros for the full rate and 10 euros for the reduced rate. Tickets can be booked on the official website duomomilano.it, which also features the event among the monument’s visit options.

A ticket office is also available for each event at the Cassa Gruppi located in Piazza del Duomo, on the right-hand side of the cathedral. It operates until the last ascent time and while tickets last. This detail matters for visitors deciding on site, but it does not replace the online booking offered by the official website.

Weather can change the musical portion

Rain does not automatically close the Terraces. The Veneranda Fabbrica states that they remain accessible in case of rain, but that the musical accompaniment may be suspended. In the event of a weather alert, the organization also reserves the right to cancel the event.

On the Duomo homepage, a notice also indicates that changes may affect the day’s events and invites visitors to check the calendar. For the Serate d’Incanto, this check is especially useful because the experience depends on access to the Terraces, the ascent time and the evening weather conditions.

An offer distinct from classic guided tours

Alongside the Serate d’Incanto, the Duomo website also presents a walk among the spires in the monument’s great classics series. This individual visit with scheduled departures follows the Terraces route, lasts 60 minutes and is available in Italian and English, with a full rate listed at 24 euros and a reduced rate from 15 euros.

This guided tour is not described as the same product as the musical evenings. It nevertheless recalls what gives the site its strength: the spires, the architectural and decorative details, as well as the heritage of the sculptural tradition linked to stonemasons. The Serate d’Incanto add to this setting an evening time slot and musical accompaniment renewed every Thursday.
