At Milan Duomo, the terraces stay open until 10 pm for sunset concerts

Until 10 September 2026, the “Serate d’Incanto” turn Milan Duomo’s Terraces into an open-air stage every Thursday. Classical music, guest artists and timings adjusted to the evening light accompany the visit, with a final date announced for 10 September.

Summer Thursdays on the cathedral rooftop

From 11 June to 10 September 2026, the “Serate d’Incanto” offer a visit to Milan Duomo’s Terraces every Thursday, accompanied by a short musical interlude. The initiative combines views over the city with a summer programme designed to follow the shifting time of sunset.

From the cathedral rooftops, Milan residents and travellers can take in the Milan skyline. The Veneranda Fabbrica describes the terraces as the fully walkable roof of a cathedral, a viewpoint that gives these musical events a particularly distinctive setting.

The “Serate d’Incanto” calendar also appears among the initiatives highlighted by the Milan Duomo on its homepage, alongside ticketing and guided tours. For people planning to discover the Milan Duomo, the programme therefore adds an opportunity for an evening visit to the monument complex’s usual offering.

Evening light sets the schedule

The timing of the musical interlude changes by month to match the twilight. In June and July, concerts begin at 8.30 pm. The Terraces then remain open until 10 pm, with the last ticket at 8.20 pm and the final ascent at 8.30 pm.

In August, the event is brought forward to 8 pm. The last ticket is then available at 7.50 pm, the final ascent is set for 8 pm and the Terraces close at 9.30 pm. The change therefore affects not only the concert, but the entire span of the evening visit.

In September, the music begins at 7.30 pm. The last ticket is at 7.20 pm, the final ascent at 7.30 pm and the Terraces close at 9 pm. This gradual adjustment makes it essential to check the time for the chosen Thursday rather than relying on one slot for the whole season.

A programme led by musicians and the Conservatory

The programme’s artistic direction is entrusted to Matteo Amadasi. The calendar spans the classical tradition and continues the renewed collaboration between the Veneranda Fabbrica and Milan’s “G. Verdi” Conservatory of Music, with a stated focus on showcasing the institution’s students.

The season opens on 11 June at 8.30 pm with the Quartetto della Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano. The ensemble brings together Andrea Pecolo and Stefano Lo Re on violin, Matteo Amadasi on viola and Alfredo Persichilli on cello.

Three Conservatory concerts complete the programme, featuring a saxophone quartet, solo violin and an electronic music duo. The line-up thus brings together several formats, from chamber music to electronic performances, within one series of events on the Terraces.

Two international recitals mark the 2026 edition

Some dates are announced as highlights of the 2026 edition. Pianist Davide Cabassi is set to give a recital on 16 July, while Michele Gamba is expected for a solo piano concert on 3 September. These two events punctuate July and September.

For Thursday 3 September 2026, the announced programme includes Bach’s Partita No. 4 in D major, BWV 828. The work comprises an Overture, an Allemande, a Courante, an Aria, a Sarabande, a Minuet and a Gigue, performed by Maestro Michele Gamba.

The soloists Alfredo Persichilli, Simonide Braconi, Luca Ranieri, Mario Marzi, Fabrizio Meloni and Marco Zoni are also announced among the performers of the musical interludes. The repertoire is expected to vary each Thursday throughout the summer, distinguishing the dates from one another beyond the sunset timing alone.

Tickets, lift access and weather

Access to the Terraces for the “Serate d’Incanto” is planned with lift access. The announced price starts at €20 full price and €10 reduced price. Tickets can be booked on the official Milan Duomo website.

On the evening of each event, tickets are also available at the Cassa Gruppi, located in Piazza del Duomo, to the right of the cathedral. It remains open until the time of the final ascent, subject to ticket availability. The last time slots change according to the month and are therefore the practical detail to check before travelling.

In the event of rain, the Terraces remain accessible, but the musical accompaniment may be suspended. In the event of a weather alert, the Veneranda Fabbrica reserves the right to cancel the event. The visit and the concert are therefore not covered by exactly the same guarantee of going ahead.
